William Henry Charles Groome (GT1) – The Later Years<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

1911 – 1913<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

WHC Groome was an Artist, an Illustrator of books and magazines, and author and had become relatively famous as such. He was recognised by his election to the Royal Society of Arts and entitled to use the letters RSA<\/strong> after his name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 1911 Census was held on 2 April 1911 and included more information again. William and Eliza are still living at 78 Coldershaw Road and we can now see that it is a nine roomed house. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

William is an Artist on his own account and works from home. This census also shows how many years a person has been married to their current spouse and how many children they have had.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A good example of William\u2019s signature is at the bottom right hand corner of the 1911 Census.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For most of his adult life William had been an avid supporter of the Liberal Party and for many years involved in local body politics.

The following article as you will see from the Ealing Liberal Magazine of July 1911 gives an insight into his deep involvement and drive for social justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So we see a man with great social conscience recognised by his peers.

William\u2019s health had not been good and in October 1913 William and Eliza took rooms at 9 Grafton Street, Brighton in the hope that the sea air would help William recover.

Unfortunately he did not recover and passed away there on 24 October 1913. He was buried at Hanwell Cemetery, City of Westminster, London on 27 October 1913.

His wife Eliza passed away in 1931 at Hendon, Middlesex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
